Abstract

As an integral component of China's traditional heritage, Shaolin sports culture possesses profound historical accumulation, unique philosophical connotations, and a comprehensive physical practice system. In the context of contemporary sports globalization and multicultural integration, the organic synthesis of Shaolin sports culture with modern competitive sports not only facilitates the preservation of traditional Chinese sportsmanship but also introduces novel cultural momentum and training paradigms into competitive athletics. This paper systematically examines the origin and evolution of Shaolin sports culture, elucidating its core concepts, technical frameworks, and educational functions. Subsequently, it analyzes the developmental dilemmas and cultural deficiencies inherent in modern competitive sports. Building upon this analysis, the study explores the theoretical foundations, practical pathways, empirical cases, and future trajectories for integrating these two domains. The findings indicate that the Shaolin principles of internal and external harmony, martial ethics, and mind-body unity can effectively mitigate the excessive utilitarianism and instrumentalization prevalent in competitive sports, thereby enhancing athletes' comprehensive literacy and psychological resilience. Furthermore, through multidimensional approaches such as curriculum development, training innovation, event design, and international communication, an in-depth dialogue and coordinated advancement between traditional and modern, as well as Eastern and Western sports cultures, can be achieved. Ultimately, this research provides theoretical support and practical references for constructing a modern sports system with distinct Chinese characteristics.
